At Jupiter HS, our Envirothon kids searched & searched last year for affordable sources of recycled paper that might be used campus-wide without success... found it to be 3X more costly that standard paper available through PBSD purchasing. Has anyone out there found sources that a school center might be able to afford?
We also would like to know about sources of environmentally acceptable cleaning products for use by our janitorial staff.
A third area of concern is forks, plates, etc. for use in our cafeteria that are made from recycled materials, are recyclable themselves, and/or are NOT produced from fossil fuels. We'd especially like to get away from Styrofoam products!
If we could find sources of the above that all Green School campuses might purchase, perhaps the price would go down for all of us.

The District is moving to green cleaning in all of our schools. We will have green cleaning rolled out into all schools by the end of this school year. Contact James Pickering through MS Outlook and he can let you know when he will get to Jupiter H.S.

I know some schools have the same problem with their paper, and some have students donate paper to the classes. If each student in your class donates one sleave of recycled paper, you could have a substantial amount.
As far as getting away from the styrofoam plates, they do sell biodegradeable plates and bowls. I am not sure if they are available through the school district, but I know many stores do carry them. At least it is biodegradeable and gets you away from stryofoam.
Also, as far as forks, sthingys, etc, I do not know of any product that is recyclable in PBC. There are some that are made from recycled material, but it cannot be recycled in PBC.

I am also extremly frustrated with the use of disposable utensils in our cafeteria on a daily basis. I went through a few people and tried to get a waiver to use metal utensils however my principal went all the way to the top and she was told no, that it was too unsanitary. If anyone else has had any luck regarding the use metal utensils please let me know! Thanks!
